Cocoon’s cargo on this occasion has been the central crew core module (3CM) of the MMS-1 Spacecraft. The 3CM unit is made up of a solar panel coated central core section forty feet in length and twenty-five feet in diameter which contains within the command and control stations for the MMS-1. Also within this unit are the living quarters for the flight crew and scientific complement of the spacecraft. At either end of the module are the huge self lubricating nylatron gasket units and rotation gear which will allow the module to rotate when this unit is brought together with both the Upper and Lower Rotational Modules of the full MMS-1 spacecraft. Contained within the centre of the gasket units and the rotation gear are airlock units which will allow access through the 3CM units to the upper and lower rotational modules by the crew from the central crew core section. As the Orbital Shuttles Atlantis and Discovery approach the 3CM unit, the crew of Atlantis move in even closer so that they can lock-on to the unit for its rendezvous with the elements of MMS-1 which are already in orbit and are even now being slowly transferred from the Von Braun Space Platform by the Orbital Shuttle Endeavour.
