Description
For some reason, I've always been fascinated by these monolithic structures.
They certainly dominate the landscape around my home town and appeared in so many of my earlier photos that my friends joked about me not taking a shot unless there was a gasometer in it.
The simplicity of the design is remarkable and has allowed many years of service to be obtained from these devices.
There has been a gasworks on this site since possibly the end of the nineteenth or beginning of the twentieth centuries.
