Can you imagine this being your office every day?
From 1900 to 1910 Rich Passage was mined. If an enemy ship had sailed through on its way to Bremerton to cause trouble for the shipyards, the people who worked in this building would have caused the underwater mines to blow up the bad guys. As it was, no bad guys ever showed up, so any blowing up that happened was only a drill.
At the time they called this area Middle Point, perhaps in a fit of creative ennui. The name was later changed to Manchester.
Growing up in a very, very small town named after a much bigger place caused no end of having to explain where I was from.
"You're from Manchester? ??? ENGLAND???"
"Manchester, Washington."
"There's a Manchester in New Hampshire."
"Yes there is, but that isn't where I'm from. I've never been to New Hampshire."
I suppose it was better than if I'd grown up in a town called Middle Point!
"You're from Middle Point? What's it between?"

Well, I live in Fortuna, and someone once asked me, "Fort Tuna? Do they fish there?" This is a great shot; love the perspective of the hard concrete inside and the soft grasses outside. And I guess if you had the window, the office wouldn't be so bad!!

Nice photo. The doors and windows are long gone, but this shows pretty well how things were - most likely no paint on the walls either (unnecessary luxury). I wonder what the furniture was like? There's also a boarded up opening in the roof - for fast communication? I'm glad it was never needed in anger. But, back then, who had the resources to launch such an attack? Thanks for this interesting photo. It even gives a view of the yard and building opposite. Keep 'em coming! :-) Middle Point, fun name, Manchester - yeah, confusing if one doesn't know one's geography. But, cause for a lot of fun!

lol, once while traveling the midwest, a man asked where I was headed, and I said "Iowa". He said, "where?" I said "Iowa." He smiled knowingly: "Ah! Out here we call it Ohio." Never forgot that. More in the "am I on Mars?" category...(Not the same as your story, I admit, but in the same territory somehow.) You and bill have posted a number of shots of very fortress-like places, and this one is simply stunning. The light in your shot is beautiful, it's soft and caressing thus transforming a very foreboding hard place (hard for all the stone) into something mystical and inviting. It's like a monastic place of meditation, almost. Wonderful work with camera and postwork, the light is heavenly---big swaths of deep bright light on the floor---and the little details out the door are all we need. Beautiful vision of a dark foreboding place. A vision.

Middle Point??? That must be next to West Point and that's on the Hudson River in upstate New York. Say, let me hear you say, "Super Solar Storms"...hehe. I do like this photo...and it is an office with a window after all:)

I can imagine a LOT of things with this amazing shot, Tara! The light streaming in is just incredible! The most amazing thing about this shot is the absolutely perfect exposure. Usually with a shot like this, if the inside is well exposed the outside is completely blown out. And if the exposure for the outside is right, it's too dark inside to see any detail. You have managed to get it right on the money - as if one was actually standing with you inside this structure. I bow at your altar, my dear! :-D
