Description
Calopteryx virgo.
SUCH a surprise to see this male in my garden today. They are restricted to fast flowing streams, and so this fleeting visit to my static pond was a real treat.
He was only here for 3 minutes at the most, which shows that it pays to have a camera on your belt all the time! Tizzy showed her macro zoom ability once more, as I was about 8 or 9 feet/2.75 mtr away.

Beautiful image.
A fine shot of this visitor to your garden.I like the metallic-like look.
Ah, I guess I have catch the same, and I doubt about uploading this today instead of that fractal ;-) Your colors are fantastic (from the damsel), Andrea! Oh no, I've not the same, I was too quick to say that, maybe I will post the picture tomorrow.
A very lucky and super capture Andrea, Tizzy does her work well.
What a gorgeous metallic turquoise color! And it seems to graceful. Beautiful capture!
Very beautiful image! Splendid colours and capture! :)
GREAT SHOT
Great shot Andrea I love the shadow under it in zoom.
Beautiful macro shot of this great looking little fly.
Those are beautiful! Wish I had those out here. Nice catch!
Stellar. Way better macro clarity than my Canon PowerShot A1200 can deliver.
The color is just out of this world!!
Very nice grab!
Superb capture Andrea. God Bless.
What a pretty she is i love her color.
this latest series of insect shots has shown the world from their view, and it's like a series of vast canyons. This fly stands on the edge of a great precipice, and those leaves behind, with their curving stems, make an extra-terrestrial forest for giants. A real "in the view of the insect" shot. I love these canyonesque settings you're getting. And the insect's shadow is pure as can be. Fine work.
He has heard how wonderful your garden is & stopped for a look :o)
Gorgeous! Like carnival glass!
WOW! A really mastershot, Andrea :-) Marvellous from that distance.
great capture !
Even more outstanding in full size view
What a treat to see in your garden. I have only seen them as you say on fast running streams. Great shot! The quick on the draw photographer, with gun belt is the way forward it seems. I still haven't had a single dragonfly around my little wildlife pond. It was only dug last summer though, still early days for them.
Awesome image Hugs Susan~
Something else, I have never ever seen before, true story! It's a very spectacular looking 'Demoiselle' and absolutely gorgeous, what an amazing insect - thank you for making me aware of it, BB
wonderful colored insect, beautiful shot
A beautiful capture, color, shadow, wings and A MUST ZOOM!
They are so beautiful but always when I try to focus they flew away...
