Description
Calopteryx virgo.
SUCH a surprise to see this male in my garden today. They are restricted to fast flowing streams, and so this fleeting visit to my static pond was a real treat.
He was only here for 3 minutes at the most, which shows that it pays to have a camera on your belt all the time! Tizzy showed her macro zoom ability once more, as I was about 8 or 9 feet/2.75 mtr away.

this latest series of insect shots has shown the world from their view, and it's like a series of vast canyons. This fly stands on the edge of a great precipice, and those leaves behind, with their curving stems, make an extra-terrestrial forest for giants. A real "in the view of the insect" shot. I love these canyonesque settings you're getting. And the insect's shadow is pure as can be. Fine work.

What a treat to see in your garden. I have only seen them as you say on fast running streams. Great shot! The quick on the draw photographer, with gun belt is the way forward it seems. I still haven't had a single dragonfly around my little wildlife pond. It was only dug last summer though, still early days for them.
