Description
This picture was taken from San Manuel, a mining town located in the Upper San Pedro River Valley. The copper mine that created and supported this community was closed in 2003.
While I checked out this town and wondered how the remaining people here make a living since there is no longer any mining activity, the clouds were building up and moving from the South to the North (left to right). On the left side of the picture are the Santa Catalina Mountains (Mt. Lemmon 9,157-ft - 2,791m), and the storm was developing over them. Thunder could be heard, occasional lightning, and precipitation began to fall out of them, but little did I know that less than an hour later I was caught in this and by then it was a much stronger system.
The view is toward the West in the direction of Oracle and Oracle Junction.

We also have little villages around the countryside that were once mining settlements but the mines are now closed and it does make one wonder how many living in them make their livings. Nice capture of a brewing storm!!

Yeah, if you don't mind the increase in humidity it makes for exiting days. Cloud build-ups, lightning shows, and often rain. In Phoenix not as often as in Tucson or points south and southeast from there!
