Description
This is the way it looked moments before visibility went to zero - luckily only for a few seconds, but twice.
The windshield wipers were going full blast. Southbound on State Route 77 between Oracle Junction and Catalina, north of Tucson, Arizona. Temperature 63F.
This was the rain in the system that caused the sandstorm that hit Phoenix about three hours later.
I had planned to post some aircraft pictures I had taken while at Reading, Pennsylvania for the annual World War II reenactment, but that has got to wait.
I never thought that I would get that excited about rain when I lived in Germany, Canada, on the East Coast or in Washington. But when one hasn't seen a decent rainstorm in a year this is a major event.

GREAT CAPTURE , WATCH OUT FOR THAT "DONT MATTER"
lol funny how that can go... when in a rainy place it is horrible in a dry place it is missed lol but wow that was a hard rain!!! I'm glad you drove through it OK! great shot BTW
where is the road ?? :) great capture
Outstanding capture! I can understand the joy and terror of seeing a hard rain when most of the time it is dry
I hate drive in the rain ;-)
Superb capture my friend. Very difficult conditions to drive in my friend. Glad you got to your destination my friend. God Bless.
It would have been hard to drive in that!
I hate driving in the rain. Once, I was on my way to Toronto in a pouring rain and my windshield wiper broke. Could barely see to get to a mechanic. It was scary.
oh my- (i hate such rain by driving) .. great shot !!!
That was some storm and dangerous too.
Zero visibility! How did you drive in these conditions? Excellent capture! :)
@emmecielle. The zero visibility lasted only a few seconds, otherwise I don't know how I could have pulled over. Normally we often have zero visibility conditions during duststorms, usually outside the cities on the freeway between Phoenix and Tucson which occasionally result in casualties.
Very atmospheric. Made me think of winshield wipers beating out rhythm. Hope you had some good music playing:) I've been in a deluge like this some years back but I think I was driving through some cornfields somewhere in the midwest. Imagine being on a motorcycle in something like this!!
Very Beautiful shot.
I wouldn't want to be on a motorcycle in this mess. My very first car, a 1951 Buick I had while living in Toronto, a 'Yankee car' as the Canadians called it (it had a straight 8 and the hood opened from the side) had vacuum operated windshield wipers, and the time you needed them the most, when you were on the gas, they just about stopped. Always had to get off the gas to make them go faster.
great capture erland
It sure is dangerous ! Great picture Sig !
i hate driving in the rain, its really dangerous, excellent shot sig.
Man that's some downpour Sig. Don't know how fast you were going but stuffed if I would be driving in this, concentrating on the road, AND taking a photo..
look like rain here at times. cool shot. be care when driving and talking photos
Whooooo-eee! Driving in the driving rain! You weren't kidding ... wow. I hadn't seen this when we talked earlier today. I sure see what you mean! We get this every once in a while, but not as much as one might think if they hadn't been here. It rarely rains THAT hard! Incredible. Glad you got to experience the rain, and glad you got out okay! :)
Wonderful capture of this torrential downpour!!
I know what u mean! I was in Pensacola Florida last weekend in their 14" flood! It was wild.
you know what comes to my mind.todays politicians have such a blurred view at things and it could be soo easy to ease the problems if they only wished to do so,regardless of religion and political party. we are all sitting** in the same boat but apparently unable to get the right direction. **PS.but sadly too many shit in the boat.lol.
Ja, dort ist wohl der Regen seltener wie bei uns in Germany ;-).
I love rain. Nothing like sitting home on a rainy day. Driving in it is not quite as fun.
Where is the road ;-) Looks dangerous to drive with this kind of weather...
Excellent capture!
You get caught in this and there is not much you can do. Right after I took this picture the visibilty went to zero, the view stopped at the windshield - and that was scary, because even if I had wanted to pull over, I couldn't see anything. Lucky, the zro visibility only lasted a few seconds.
