"...games of two-up interfere with the navigator of our aircraft..." QANTAS "airliner" VHCAA imagined here crossing into New Guinea's Owen Stanley Range in the mid-1940's... During its career, this QANTAS Lockheed "...called Australia Home" only briefly. Evacuated to Australia as the Dutch East Indies fell, the Dutch RNEIAAF Lodestar LT-907 was amongst the ragged assortment of transports acquired by the Allied Directorate for Air Transport in 1942. QANTAS Empire Airways operated this aircraft as "VHCAA" (its callsign) for much of the Pacific war- and its service was notable for its use in shuttle flights bringing wounded out of New Guinea. VHCAA briefly reverted to QANTAS civilian routes in Australia toward the war's end, and soon after the war was sold to a New Zealand airline.
