Description
James Island or A-Ka-Lat (Top of the Rock) as it is known by the small Quileute Indian Tribe of LaPush, Washington has been their tribal refuge and burial grounds for their chiefs for "thousands of winters".
We had the privilage of camping at this beach in our RV in the early part of May...no more than 100 feet from the high tide line.

WOW...very impressive....
Great capture Bill!
outstanding image
beautiful work, bill. A serene background---even with the hard edged mounds & dramatic clouds back there---which is broken-into by a very dramatic foreground of tons of driftwood, broken trunks & tree-stuff, with clumps of powerful grasses and other greeneries, and with the natural discolorations of weather and age all folded into the mix. Again (as I say often in your gallery), a composition I would find very challenging, making this very active foreground (visually) blend beautifully with the more open background behind it. Of course that background is active & dramatic too...But moreso, "presenting" a background through the curtains---the "front-stage" so to speak---of such a craggy foreground makes a dramatic image all around. And while it may be this color naturally, you haven't heightened anything; you've left the overall bluish gray that I assume is indigenous to the place. You've given us a few-toned feeling (rather than a multi-toned feeling), very brooding and dramatic, like a storm might break out very soon. And the menagerie of wood-forms in the front is just wonderful...lush and opulent for all its cragginess...A really fine piece, evoking a very primal landscape. You sure saw some formidable nature on your trip...
Wow - what a gorgeous campsite! A wonderful shot, Bill - love that sky!
It is always amazing to see - (from the distance!) - how some trees can survive, right on top of those rocks, on very little or so it seems ... and the driftwood is set to be recognised, I mean just take a look at those many different shapes, I can visualise all sorts of weird animal already! ;) fine composition, Bill BB
So beautiful. I really do miss the coast so much.
A wonderful view of this island carved out by time.
Beautiful shot Bill and an interesting sky too. Looks cool and refreshing!
