Description
Please read information about the picture!
When one calls a vestal virgin priestess of the goddess Vesta. The temple in the background is her geweit. (Roman Forum)
The priesthood of the Vestals consisted of at least thirty years of service.
Their main task was to beware of the fire in the Temple of Vesta, that never was allowed to go out and fetching water from the sacred spring of the nymph Egeria, that was used to purify the temple.
During their term of service, the Vestals were committed to absolute chastity. The loss of virginity was seen as a priestess serious disaster for the Roman community. An unchaste priest was buried away from the priesthood and alive.

Beautiful image!
Very nice job with your pictures of Rome.
Very fine depiction of the vestals, image and text !
You seem to be having fun mixing your pictures Elke.
Spectacular art!
Very lovely image and great info also Elke. I certainly gave the priest a good incentive to stay a virgin, being buried alive would not be good for ones health.. If she did loss her virginity she wouldn't want to tell a soul hehe..
Very beautiful Elke!
