Description
This statue stands at the entrance to Donner Memorial Park. It commemorates the ill fated Donner Party and is on the site of the spot where the few survived. I walk and bike in the park a lot when I'm in Truckee and this place has a very special feeling to it. I can't imagine being stranded in the winter there.
btw--it stands probably 50' high.

Enormous! I envy you the bike. It is too dangerous here for me.
Bigger than life, indeed! A heroic portrayal. I'd be surprised if the survivors felt anything close to this by the time they got out. It's a marvellous photograph. Love the composition!
I think they just felt lucky. Very nice shot!
Still snow in the background. Nice shot. Aloha
Wow hon a very nice piece of history here and something i have always wanted to see great capture.
Great capture of this monument; what a stunning view behind!
A very good photograph!
Excellent shot - I like your composition a lot.
I have stood in that exact spot when traveling west with my brother when he drove 18 wheelers from Wisconsin to California....After several times that way I finally asked him to deviate from the course and wanted to see this park..Nice to see it again...Thanks for sharing!....(smiles)...
What a cracking shot Maz, I like the POV you chose here, gives this splendid work an imposing feel
Hi Marilyn, Have been Truckin' of the Truckee once back in the 80's...white water rafting...but missed visiting this park. Next time:) Nice shooting.
Wonderful capture and information. I knew the story but did not know that a few survived!
