Description
aka African lily, Lily of the Nile.
Captured 4/16/12, very early AM, less than one-quarter of a mile from my archetypal abode.
A ZOOM is highly recommended.
Finally had the opportunity to do some backlighting on flora, a practice that durleybeachbum and morningglory, among others, have currently adopted for their flower pics.
Totziens, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Wonderful light. Fantastic shot!
Lovely early light!
This is a beautiful capture of them Harry, the lighting here is sensational.
beautiful flower, i like the light points in the drops
very lovely
I see these all the time on tv shows filmed in California, and they are spectacular.....but it's one of those plants that does not do well here. The light bouncing off the flower buds is so pretty.
Apart from the new back-lighting you are experiencing, there is the bonus of the morning dew on them - or was it rain? Just watch how beautiful they will look, when they start to open up, a joy to behold ;) Harry, BB PS Very slowly, am I working my way through all the accumulated mail ;(
This looks very beautiful with the back lighting. An excellent capture. I have just finished cutting off all my flowerheads of this lily so they are ready for the winter.
Lovely capture; the backlight really works well with those water drops, a real wowser, Harry!
never seen before this sort !! lovely in sunshine and with drops too :)
great capture
A very cool shot, with the backlighting and the light sparkling through the dew drops!
Love the way the light is hitting it.
lovely!!!
PERFECT capture Harry...I LOVE the light gleaning through the droplets...just to beautiful...much better to view than sewer covers lol
Before getting to the second mariachi shot, I wanted to stop off here, because it's a soft, whispering shot of the real beauty of a plant, in early morning light & dew. You're one of a small number of people here who shoot regularly at dawn (I'm one of the others, lol). And those of us who do that know what a gift that time of day is. Since you've been doing it a lot longer than I, you've earned the 'rights' to the time of day; and it's fitting that it should shed its veils for you day after day, as it does here. Also, backlighting is still hard for me, I haven't gotten the balance between it & the subject. Here it's natural, and the speckling of light against the flowers & their droplets---as pointed out by several, above---makes it a gentle jewel. And I think your choice of solid background for half the shot, and 'open' background for the other, is just right: Painters would do this all the time, letting their subject stand-out in front of both. Beautiful gentle work; and I don't know why, but it seems very much 'south-west'. I couldn't imagine this in chicago, in other words, though I can't give you a rational reason. Maybe, living where you live so long, you just know what your area 'feels' like, and you capture it with your lens. Subtle beautiful capture, Harry. And the little sliver of orange is a nice contrasting touch.
