I think your experiment went quite well. Looking at the thumbnails, I thought this was a photo, after clicking on it, I saw the depth. Actually the first thing that really got my attention...he looks just like my best friend's brother when he was in his 20's. lol Excellent lighting, cool pose, and the experiment has positive results!

Great portrait :) Detailed and love the strands of hair down the front, lighting on the face and reflected light in the glasses and eyes. The sweater in the background adds a nice cozy look to it. Very nice!
