Description
Wilkerson Pass is 9,507 feet above sea level in the Colorado Rockies. What a view, huh? Those are the Sawatch mountains.
The mountain on the left is Princeton, and the one on the right is Yale. No fooling. There are two more as you go out the right-hand side of the picture named Columbia and Harvard.
The Collegiate Peaks, as they're collectively known, are each over 14,000 feet. Princeton and Yale are both right around 14,200. Do you remember the picture I posted a few days of Mount Rainier, and the information about topographic prominence? The topographic prominence of these two peaks is about 2,000 feet.
When I took the picture of Mount Rainier I was standing maybe 100 feet above sea level. When I took this picture in Colorado, I was at 9,500 feet above sea level.

Hand in your homework as you leave the classroom, and prepare for the possibility of a pop quiz at a later date.

The fence along the bottom is a masterly inclusion! A glorious composition, and the mountains look non depressing that far away. Perfection.

Great landscape and Like the others I love the fence and dark foreground giving a sense of distance, the only thing I would have done is tried to lighten those lovely golden Aspen, it would have given the shot a more Ansel Adams look.

What a wonderful view and capture, Tara. SO beautiful with the contrasts of almost black and then the lighter trees in the olive green colors in the forground and the almost tan in the middle distance and then all the blue hues. A Masterpiece.

Well, this is an incredible shot of an incredible view, Tara! It's not easy to communicate the feeling of depth in a photo when a scene such as this is before you. But you have certainly done so here! However, I must inform you that -sadly- the dog ate my homework. And I don't even have a dog... ;-D

Let's see, I've been reading all about mountain building. The Sawatch mountains...hmmmm. I'll have to go back to my book. Can I hand in my homework a day late? This is a beautiful panorama. So glad we were travelling via modern transportation on a hard top road. This would have been no fun in the 1840s-50s.

There are a couple things I didn't know Tara. Very informative. I didn't know about the passes and peaks (there are so many peaks over 14,000-ft and passes 10,000-ft or higher) but I also didn't know about prominence.
