Description
This AVRO Lancaster, BX FM 213, owned and flown by the Canadian Warplanes Heritage Museum is about to land at the Reading, Pennsylvania Mid Atlantic Air Museums airfield for the 20th Anniversary of the WWII Weekend.
Lancaster BX FM 213 was retired from active duty with the RCAF on 6 November 1963, then stored at Dunnville, Ontario. FM 213 had 4,392.3 hours on the airframe when it was handed over. It would probably have been sold for scrap metal except for the intervention of The Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich.
The aircraft was acquired by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in 1978, underwent a 10-year restoration, and has remained airworthy since 1988.
The aircraft is flown in the paint scheme of KB 726 VR-A, depicting an aircraft of No. 419 Squadron RCAF, and is known as the 'Mynarski Memorial Lancaster' in honor of Canadian VC recipient Andrew Mynarski.
The aircraft was grounded due to corrosion found in the propeller blades but after an appeal for funding it flew again in May 2009.

splendid shot
Cool capture and great history Glad that it is flying still
Fantastic shot of this old gal.
Its always good to see the old birds still flying, even today...hope she flys many more years to come..
Fantastic detail when zoomed in. If it were not for the vehicles in the background this could be a wartime image. Well done!
Impressive! Did you know this is one of only two airworthy Lancasters? We have part of one here ... just the nose ... and even that's pretty amazing. Terrific capture!
Outstanding Sig. Wait 'til Rob (debbielove) sees this. We'll have to send for the emergency medics to revive him! ;-) Excellent background info too.
Thats a great shot! Great details in the zoom. Shell - is that a sponsor or actualy part of the original paint scheme? Cheers.
fantastic shot!!!
A great shot! It is such a challenge to keep these war birds flying. Hats off to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum for this, and for bringing that Sabre Jet to Edmonton for the last AIRFEST, which enhanced my book "Edmonton's Last AIRFEST" which is available from Blurb.
Toller Schnappschus!
A beautiful shot of this wonderful icon.
Superb capture my friend. God Bless.
Fantastisches Bild und Danke für die so interessante Geschichte dazu!!! Frohe Ostern :-)

great foto.
Que 'The Dam Busters March'.....brilliant capture, hope to see the other flyer at 'Legends'.Shame there are only two still in the air but that's better than none.Long may they continue to fly, a fantastic tribute to all who served. Thanks, it's a fave!...
Wow what a powerful pic this is awesome capture.
Well THIS is a rarity!!!!! It's not often a shot of this famous Lanc appears on Rendo... The BBMF aircraft 'Phantom Of the Rhur', is the more famous, and thus appears far more.. BUT.. this is just as important because it is 50% of all there is flying.. Thanks Sig... News for Neil.. Yes the 'Other' Lanc, will be at Legends.. Other EXCITING news.. Another (yes, there IS another...) taxiable Lanc, is building to flight status.. Her name 'Just Jane'. So, there is a chance...just a chance that one day there may be TWO flying in the UK>.... I need a lie down at that thought.. EIGHT Merlins! Rob
