Description
...much to our surprise, this fine Pileated Woodpecker landed on a big old dead tree in the woods next to our front door and started up quite a racket.
...a quick grab of my tripod, camera and 200mm zoom lens caught him at work.
...he didn't seem frightened of me and worked until he was good and ready to leave.

Oh, I love the sounds these people make! Nature always has a way of putting really loud creatures around, but their flamboyant racket is never disturbing. Woodpeckers, cicadas, people like that...they're all so wonderfully loud, and yet you don't hear them. And then you go and capture THIS gorgeous person! I love that red hat! The sense of color in this shot is marvelous, especially that red and the wood-tones.
These guys give me a headache! Not from the racket mind you, but by just watching them. My head is starting to hurt just thinking about it. :~)
