The Danaides
Danaides: daughters of Danaos
Aegyptos and Danaos are two brothers. On the death of their father, they quarrel over the division of countries which their father was king.
Aegyptos offers his brother to marry his 50 sons with the 50 daughters of Danaos. But an oracle warns Danaos that Aegyptos intends to kill his daughters on the wedding night.
Danaos has to flee, conquer and rule over other countries.
Aegyptos, always jealous of his brother, sent his 50 sons with an army to take revenge.
After a siege of his city, and under duress, Danaos agrees to give them his daughters in marriage, but he ordered his daughters to kill their husbands during the wedding night.
Although Athena and Hermes have purified the Danaides of their crimes, the Judges of the Dead condemned them to go to Hell forever and fill a barrel pierced like a sieve ...

A most beautiful scene, wonderful atmosphere.
Wowwwwww. This is so freakin' cool! I feel like I'm looking at a different world here. This ritual they are performing is so intriguing! And I absolutely love their harem-type attire and sandals. What a scene! Fantastic!
Beautiful concept, what a cool idea for an image! Great details

magnificent piece of work Jean, teriffic shadowing and atmo.
Wow, what an impressive and very creative interpretation of this Greek myth. Great work!
Fantastinc scene! Love the details!
You did really great work! Very well done!
Well done! Very interesting and ominous atmosphere! Must be based on an old myth or something? The women all bringing water to feel the barrel that can never be filled as it leaks out below. If it isn't a parable it should be :)
Fantastic scene, very mystical and mysterious.
Beautiful, dramatic, and very mysterious. At least these ladies are not as fast as unemployed ... Fabulous made, fantastic picture!
This red background is perfect to bring out the dark atmosphere of the Tartare. The water effects are wonderful and the eternal punishment of these girls is very well shown.
Great scene, love it! Wonderful!
A sad story, which continues today in Greece. Formerly caused by women. Today politicians. Your picture is conclusive to the history of The barrel of the Danaides. Reminds me of a perpetual motion machine.
You made it look more hopeful... as the water ends in a a river...
Good picture
