Description
The 1895 Reliance Building in Chicago has been renovated and is now the Hotel Burnham. This is the interior stairwell as seen from the 14th floor.

Interesting iron work. And, I like how you've placed the middle quatrefoil in front of the iron work under the stair step. While the quatrefoil suggests the sign of the cross, the yin-yang symbol is under the steps AND in the center of the quatrefoil. I wonder if the designer had a motiv for this, or if it was just a purely design thing? Keep up the good work! :-)

And this too reveals more detail then I 'saw' as I walked by this a number of times. I noticed the marble stair treads but didn't study the ironwork letting it simply flow over me. Beautiful work.

A very elaborate staricase indeed! Wonderful rich details - nice one, Tara! I'm assuming you took the elevator (unless you're considerably more energetic than I am..)
once again you've brought my city to light for me. I realized, when seeing this, that I studied the exterior of this building (when it was much more run down) but never got further-in than the lobby. Your shot is almost like an elevator cage or an enclosure on some looming space below, always seeking the mysteries of architecture. I can see the semi-gothic "foils" in the stair-grillwork, that strangely purified quatrefoil, made 'pure' by the sheer circles, with those beautiful flowers in the center. And---with t-rex---the "yin-yang" symbols galore (even though they have those gothic cusps & points, isn't architecture an incredible party???) It's a lovely capture of the complex, intimate world of fine design work, all tucked into the cloistered grillwork of a stairwell. A tara architectural montage, no surprise after viewing your other captures of the many worlds of architecture. Also, this is more of your abstract studies, with texture, creamy marble, light & dark, etc. Thank you for remembering, Tara, and for your support throughout the whole year, when I was & wasn't here. And slowly but surely you're re-acquainting me with the gems of my city's downtown. I guess I'll have to hire you, because you do this city very proud. Thank you for remembering once again.
