Description
As the nine main engines of the Hercules Super Booster flame out and die from lack of fuel its payload separates and inertia carries it toward low Earth orbit.
The payload for Hercules on this occasion has been the Main Engine Section and the Lower Rotational Module for NASA’s MMS-1 spacecraft topped-off with an aerodynamic end-cap unit to protect the payload whilst it is in flight.
Waiting on station not far away are the Orbital Shuttles Atlantis and Discovery whose crews will coordinate their efforts and work together to capture the huge payload as its inertia finally dies.
