Description
In 1651 he (Jan van Riebeeck) volunteered to undertake the command of the initial Dutch settlement in the future South Africa. He landed three ships (Dromedaris; Reijger and Goede Hoop) at the future Cape Town on 6 April 1652 and fortified the site as a way-station for the VOC trade route between the Netherlands and the East Indies.

I was really looking forward to viewing Table Mountain from way out at sea, as Jan van Riebeeck and his sailors might have done in 1652. Maybe I did, mist and all!
Anyway, this was my first glimpse of Cape Town 360 years later, the slopes of Signal Hill just visible on the right. The Green Point Stadium is the big structure a third from the right, one of the most recent additions to the skyline for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The tallest two on the left are the harbour control tower and a deep sea drill ship.
Thanks,
Clive

Still a beautiful pic Clive even without the mountain view.
Wonderful capture - wonderful and quiet mood about the whole scene
Thanks to your image and your description I can see myself viewing this through the eyes of my favorite Dutch historical figure..., Jan van Riebeeck:)
