Description

Every first week-end of February, Natagora (the Belgian most important organisation for the defense of nature) is organizing a census to count the birds at the garden feeders; this little Robin (Erithacus rubecula) was one of the first to appear this morning ! Chaque premier week-end de février, Natagora et Natuurpunt organisent un recensement national des oiseaux des jardins : Devine qui vient manger chez nous aujourd’hui ? ; ce petit Rouge-gorge familier est apparu l’un des premiers ce matin ! What a bird! What light. I love Euro Robins...they seem a bit smaller than the ones here in North America. Of course, I live in Chicago, and so it's of evolutionary importance for them to be big enough to fight off marauding trucks taxi-cabs, and gun-toting pigeons. Ah! Life in Chicago. It's wonderful! This is a gorgeous pic, and I especially love the color and quality of the light.

This is a very interesting and beautiful bird. It's a wonderful picture as well, for reasons of light, clarity, and composition. But birds don't get their beauty as a result of evolution, but rather, God gave them beauty so that we could enjoy them.
