Description
On our trip through the Midwest and back, we saw people in climbing gear doing various things:
In downtown Chicago we saw window washers dangling from the parapets.
Outside Colorado Springs, Colorado, there was a crew alongside Highway 24 doing safety work on the rock walls next to the road.
At Smith Rock in Oregon we saw loads of people all roped up and climbing the cliffs.
When we got home and I started looking at the photographs from the trip, I realized these guys aren't really window washers ... they're rock climbers.
The windows are incidental.

not a job for me
I love watching these guys. I wish you were here when some muckety-muck "idea" person decided that it would be really cool to have models walking DOWN the side of the Macy's building. THAT was a sight. They were rock climbers, people not afraid of heights and they were rigged up in such a way that they actually did "walk" down the front of the building. I wonder if THESE guys were two of the "models" hired to do that. I wouldn't be surprised! Now, as I look at this photo and the general setup and gear the guys are working with, it strikes me that they're not washing windows at all...they're painting them on the side of the building.
FYI they are NOT rock climbers. No rock climber would climb with a Bosun's Chair. You cannot climb with a Bosun's Chair, but must be hoisted or lowered into place.

They obviously go to great 'panes' to do a good job, I just hope they don't drop anything cos that could be 'painful'.

There is a climbing facility in Marymoor Park, but it looks awfully easy compared to these guys. Wonder what they do for fun? Not a job I'd like!

I'm with Andrew on this. What is it we don't get Bill? Bosun's chairs, hoisting gear, large pails for water...? Were they going up or down? I hate to think I am missing something...?
