Description
This year marks a return of many snowy owls because of when Arctic lemmings, their usual fare, become scarce. My guess would be around 40 birds in our bay area. They like to make the new home in open fields with good views of the voles they will now eat.
With this however, flocks of photographers descend on the areas, and can be quite a problem in their paparazzi style which annoys the most conscious photographers and nature lovers. Advancing on them should be done in slow movements with stops to let them feel comfortable. Having a long lens and walking away once it seems they are a bit edgy.
You could get very close and get some really nice shots, but then back off the way you came in and all will be fine.
I will wear my neoprene waders and sneak out and sit for a few hours, and most times the birds will come close to me. As did these two just as the sun was coming up.
Be respectful of nature and it rewards you.

This is one of the best bird images I have ever seen! To see these beauties in their natural habitat is amazing. Maybe you guys must get your local authorities involved to guide and educate the papparazzi on photographing these owls! Thank you for sharing!

As a wildlife rebaber, I have my hands on wild animals everyday. It still is so much more special for me to see them where they belong. Only mean people belong in cages. A so very beautiful shot. I know the patience it took!
