Description
Mount Baker as seen from Mukilteo beach on New Year's Eve afternoon.
It's views like this that make me wonder why I would ever want to travel. This is fifteen minutes from our house, and it's one of two beaches we frequent on a regular basis.
When I look at photos from our trips, I don't wonder at all! There are so many amazing things out there to see. (I mean seriously ... we stayed in a corn silo in Illinois, for pity's sake! How cool is that? Travel broadens your horizons.)
One day I want to see a Danish currant field and an English groyne, among other things.
Then I'll come home and look at our mountains again and wonder why I would ever need to go anywhere else!

You caught this one just perfectly... full light on Mt. Baker and the lower guys in shadow, making a perfect dissection of it and showcasing the might of the mountain. The west coast volcanic group is certainly one of the most amazing wonders of the world.
I KNOW this place - I have been there!!! YAY!!! WOW Hun - what amazing goldebn light on Mt Baker! Gosh - that is terrific. It almost looks unnatural! Beautiful image my friend! Miss you lots! xx
excellent
Splendid view, amazing capture!
This is spectacular and an instant fav.
A golden glow. What a surprise to see the mountain had moved closer to us that day:) Love your postwork... Captain Vancouver again:) The explorer George Vancouver named the mountain for 3rd Lieutenant Joseph Baker of HMS Discovery, who saw it on April 30, 1792.
I love the colour banding in the sky, very lovely.
fantastic lighting
Who would want to move seeing such beautiful mountains Tara. He he i would especially after seeing so many mountains during my visit to the Western Cape. Stunning capture. God Bless.
I don't need to travel because I can look at your wonderful pics, and those of others on this site, without the stress!
So beautiful...I think Mt. Baker was one of the mountains we could see from the Space Needle in Seattle...that and Mt. Rainier and maybe Mt. St. Helena. I think that's what the sign said...or maybe not. I can't remember. How lucky that you live so close to such beauty.
Wonderful shot of this beautiful mountain love the light
beautiful emerging light
Isn't it amazing how the mountains around here seem to move themselves and grow larger and smaller depending on where you stand? I'm sure the native folks here had a lot of stories about that phenomenon. This one is absolutely gorgeous--the golden peaks behind the sentinel hills glowing in the setting sun. Fantastic work!
wonderful view and mood too !!
Gorgeous place indeed! And so important to realise how lucky you are to live in such a beautiful place! And you're right, to realise that, you definitely need to travel and see other places, landscapes, people etc... before you realise how cool it is at home! ;)

A stunning capture of this mountain all lit up in the afternoon sun. It would be lovely to travel the world but there is no place like home.

Mount Baker the weather maker!
Really lovely. Makes me homesick.
A gorgeous shot, Tara! Sometimes we do need to stop and just take a look at what's in our own backyard! I think I will..... I'll be right back.... I'm back. I think I like your backyard better! :-D I agree - travel does broaden one's horizons... Just sitting here broadens something else... :-P
Beautiful Hugs Susan
