Description

A White-tailed Bumble worker (Bombus lucorum) taking advantage of unseasonally warm temperatures on December 20th to have a meal. Jim and Glenda say it is warmer than usual when it gets above -20C/-4F where they live! It was about 10C/50F here today, and I was wearing at least 4 layers.

Lovely shot Andrea and very unusual. In your area today and it was quite cold and windy on the top of the firing ranges.

Great shot! Seldom to see bumble bees or bees in action this time of year! But of course why should bees not take this opputunity? :o)

Heck of a thing when you have to wear winter clothing to garden isn't it:)

At 50F, I'm wandering around in shirtsleeves, talking about getting stuff done outdoors while it's warm! LOL! You have so many things still in bloom! I know you're showing us snippets and "the last one" of many things, but our "last ones" were a loooooong time ago. Such a treat to see this!

Brave critter and a real opportunist! We have mild temps since yesterday - around 23C with constant rain!

Great looking capture of this brave little guy Andrea. Not a bee within 300 miles of here due to severe weather. It has been hard pressed today to climb above -18C. This is still a little warmer than usual so we are happy. Average temp in January is around -30C so we are still well above that.

Either that is a gigantic bee, or those are miniature lemons growing on the vine in this awesome foto, Andrea. And I wear a T-shirt, a flannel shirt and a semi thick jacket when it's 50-degrees F here. In fact, I even wear the same thing when it's in the low 40s. Not bad for an old codger.

How beautiful! We're in the mid-40's for the most part here, with rain, and wind, and rain, and rain!

I love bumblebees. I'm not sure how they are able to fly with the laws of physics (even worse than the regular bees, I think!) ... and we have both kinds here, the black and yellow stripes, and the all black bumblebees. We had a black bumblebee frequent our garden every day for a long while. It seems it loved the lily of the nile plants the best. Wonderful capture, and well worth the sacrifice you made in the cold weather. ;c)

Storing up for the winter, if it ever comes. Excellent macro. End of the year and still 10C/50F? Lucky that global climate change is just a myth.
