Description
Tara (auntietk) posted "Gehry in Chicago" a day ago.
The question came up, What was Bill looking at?
After a little file search, here's the answer:-)
This was my view while standing on the BP Bridge (see Tara's picture), north up Columbus Drive at the Randolph Street skyscrapers in Chicago.
Being originally from New York, I grew up thinking of the manmade canyons in Manhattan...so here I am just indulging myself in observing the canyons of another major city noted for its skyscraping architecture.

with canyons and underground byways for the human ants to crawl along Great capture Bill I wish you and Tara a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Outstanding POV employed to snap this urban elysium, Bill, but where's all the traffic? Early Sunday morning?
INTERESTING POV :) Happy Holidays Bill
Dallas has a buried freeway now, since they built a park above it.when the trees get planted they are only allowed to grow so much then they will remove and replace with young trees. I have only been at the airport in Chicago but did get a birds view of the city outstanding cityscape and Merry Christmas to you and all of your family and a very Happy New Year!
Wow. From the angle of my shot, you'd never even know this was here! I mean the road ... not Chicago in general. :P That was a nice morning, just wandering without a plan. :)
That is interesting to have seen the photo of the photographer taking a photo then to see that photo that he took! Great shot!
Cool shot Bill that's some highway they have running under there, well captured.. Wishing you and Tara a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2012..
Well worth those steadying elbows on the parapet Bill. Have a great time my friend.
very much one i would have taken myself
You and Tara make Chicago look so good. I knew this was here, I've been on Columbus Drive more times than I care to admit. Heck, I've been under Columbus Drive more times than I care to remember, but this really makes that whole area seem new and shiny, and clean! I love the colors and the light and the upwardness of those buildings. I'm also taken with the whole urban canyon thing and I find that the Columbus Drive "maw" leading underground recalls a river either emerging from an underground source, or making its oh-so-casual way into a cave, full of all sorts of interesting, eyeless creatures inside. Wonderful!
And a deep covered gorge dead ahead!
I'm glad we are outside looking in. Clausterphobic place in there. Great pic though..I can see it without visiting!
Awesome capture on these buildings.
splendid cityscape! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Tara!
Whew, thought I missed the question (though some of my teachers used to say that all the time!!) Great city shot!!
I love the sky way beyond the behemoths, and the bits reflected in the windows...wonderful shot!
Those buildings are amazing, wonderful capture. Happy Christmas to you, Tara & Mandy. Love, QUIET WOOFS, WAGS & PURRS. xxx
Aha, now we know! - thanks for letting us in on the 'secret' - but it's a concrete jungle out there alright, been there and done that! I'm so glad I am back with Mother nature again - having said all that - it is fascinating and a great POV, BB
Awesome capture of this beautiful cityscape!!!
Cool image Wishing you and Tara a Merry Christmas... I got up a holiday one too for all of rosity Hope to see you drop by...both of ya:) anyway once again cool capture and Happy Holidays Hugs Susan~
Awesome shot Bill! Blessed Christmas dear friend!
I agree with Chip. You are both making Chicago look beautiful :) Excellent shot.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! BEST WISHES!
Well, that's an amazing scene, and a great shot of it, Bill! Well worth the 'photographer's elbows' from steadying your camera for this shot.
A real man made canyon. Beautiful illustration of monolithic functional modern architecture. Scarcely a decoration to break the monotony. The tunnel is a nice addition to accentuate the canyon. I hope you've had a good Christmas. Take care and have a Happy New Year. :-)
would have never thought wonderful capture warm hugs, Linda
I like this POV and the shadow on the beige building.
It's a beautiful shot Bill, it could almost be HDR the range of colours and details are very dynamic
