The picture was taken from the flock of sheep that graze on the Gerendal.
This species is rare sheep. It was almost extinct.
In Dutch it is called "The Mergelland sheep".
They are a special kind, grazing on calcareous grasslands.

Dear Jacomina, this is gorgeous! I love the light and the tree! I'm sure the branches in the foreground are from a different tree, but it looks like the tree in the center is reaching out over the sheep and holding them safe. You have captured such beautiful light! The grass sparkles, in the foreground and on the slope further away. The light plays in the branches too, and, as you said, lies warm on the backs of the sheep. The sheep are lovely and interesting. I went to a farm in England once, that raised farm animals that were rare. There were some that were very similar to ones raised during Medieval times. It was very interesting. Sheep look so funny when they haven't been sheered in a while. Their legs looks too skinny to hold them up. I love your poem. The ending is perfect and can have a deeper meaning for all of us. Excellent work, dear friend! :)
