This is where my camera shows it's lack of megapixels.
This is Komachi-dori, a long, narrow street in Kamakura packed with souvenir shops, restaurants and more tourist tat than you can wave a Totoro at ^_^
I took this one when I saw the mother and son in their kimonos... 2011 and they don't look out of place. I cropped this one down from a wider pic which was packed with people. I wanted to concentrate on them.
The little boy is dressed like that for a ceremony which takes place for kids aged 3, 6 and 9 (I think that's what Ryoko said). We saw quite a lot of wee boys and girls dressed in their beautiful kimonos.

Nice shot! Not so many people keep their traditions in they heart so much like this, Japanese are exceptional for this.
Tradition rocks!...great capture and what a great jacket, I'd wear that....Why do Japanese men ALWAYS look like they've just stepped out of the barbers, there's not a hair out of place.....Really enjoying this series, brilliant....

Nice photo, I notice the older man facing towards us is looking down at the child, and he even looks amused, or a similar emotion. Nice candid shot!
