Description
This is for Bill ... another special day to honor that first special day.
The Painted Hills in Oregon are absolutely spectacular.
Although I did a bit of work to bring out the colors, they really are there, and they really are amazingly vivid.
About 33 million years ago volcanic activity laid down a series of bentonite clay hills striped in bands of color. Warm reds are from iron oxides, similar to those of ordinary rust. Yellows and oranges can be a blend of iron and magnesium oxides, greens are caused by yellow in combination with blue celadonite, and the lavenders come from rhyolitic lava.
Aren't you glad I dug up all that information? LOL!
There's a wonderful game that's been going on in the Forum for ages and ages, and it's loads of fun! Check it out here ...

A most amazing place. The pictures we got from here remind me of a digital painting you did of some softly rounded hills in Africa...although these colors are far more pronounced. Love the light in this photo and the fact that it is for me. Times we'll not forget:)
FABULOUS! spectacularly beautiful. I used most of those oxides and carbonates when I was a potter. I still have my glaze recipe book. This could be folds in some expensive velour felt that I would want to make a hat out of.
fascinating and atunning beauty !
Stunning shot!
Wow This is a stellar image Hugs Susan~
Excellent shot! :)
From the thumbnail, I thought, "Oh no, her cake fell." LOL! This is amazing once I saw the full size. Beautiful and amazing capture.

Nature is truly amazing.
What an amazing place and the colours must be glorious. Excellent capture.
Just like a rainbow, but on the ground not in the sky...looks amazing ! Now you got me thinking how to recreate this in Vue ! BTW, a BIG THANX for the Burfday wishes...kool ! ~Cheers~
Super awesome!
You know - when I first saw this image, I thought it was a photo of canvas or fabric of some kind with the soft colors dyed into it. This is really amazing, Tara! I'm digging this - and like jif3d, I'm thinking about trying this in Vue or Bryce.. Tooooo cool!
Volcanic activity makes for some of the most dynamic and gorgeous photography! I'm rather glad that Earth is a geologically active planet...because of stuff like that. I'm also glad that it's not more geologically active than it is! I love the colors and the shapes in this. It looks almost like a macro shot of a lumped bed-quilt! This is super!
Another one of my favorite places to visit in Oregon. We are going to go back in the spring. Lovely picture!
looks impressive !! never seen this before!!
Yeah, these hills look amazingly beautiful. Is it footprints I see above?
Looks like some piece of velvet, so soft. Very interesting textures. Almost an abstract.
This is gorgeous. A very feminine landscape, all soft curves and colors.

This reminds me of a piece of tie-dyed velvet, soft and luxurious and so very lovely! Beautiful capture!

Hard to believe that this is a part of the landscape - in some ways abstract... Clive
