Description
After Panama Viejo had been sacked by the Welsh privateer Henry Morgan and totally destroyed by fire in 1671, the city was rebuilt a few kilometers to the west.
It is known today as Casco Viejo, a walled city, that is being gentrified.
In the meantime, the old site of Panama Viejo was forgotten for more than 200 years and the modern City of Panama expanded and developed around it. Fortunately somebody realized the historic significent of the old site and the ruins were preserved and it became a UNESCO Heritage Site. There is some restoration going on, but not much. I assume the moneys are not available.

Awesome capture of these very cool ruins!!! Great narrative!!
A so wonderful and peaceful place!
Beautiful shot of the foreground and that of the well framed background.
Always find a place like this to have a real aire of mystery and with the history of violence, I don't think I'd like to spend a night within these ruins...could be a bit creepy...Oooooooooo:)
Amazing shot!
Wow. Mind boggling! It must have been so interesting to walk around here and see those stones. Terrific picture!

Great looking capture! This works for me, shows more the feel of a sacked City.. Shame the money doesn't seem to be there, or has 'wondered' into someone's pocket... But we won't go there.... No skyscrapers, nice! Thanks for the comment on 'Forevermore', Sig! And, enjoy your trip to Australia.. Rob
