Description
It has been ages, so I thought I should post *something* before the end of the year. Been busy with life and not as much time behind the camera as I would like. Here is a Wood Stork I came across the other day. I've never seen them sit, but that is just what this one was doing. It began to rise as I clicked off this shot. These birds always remind me of the creatures from the Dark Crystal movie.

Not wounded, no. I it stood up and walked off as I was taking its photo. I had a zoom lens too... ;']

For awhile I've thought I'm the only one who watched and totally enjoyed the Dark Crystal. In fact, I have it on VHS in my library. And you are right...there is a resemblance. :-) Good to see you, Kort. And a very nice shot at a very interesting level. The shadow side of the face is a little dark. Perhaps a light touch in photo editing could lighten that part of the face and bring out more of the illusive details? I don't know. This is really unique without any help at all.

I have it on good authority that the Skeksis were based on various birds (vultures, storks, hornbills) and well...Not only did I enjoy The Dark Crystal, although I loathed the Gelflings, but I'm still looking for the soundtrack. Hmmm...I wonder what that implies. The cutesy Gelflings (apparently there were only two of them left, and I suspect their slope-faced human appearance disturbed me in ways I still can't put my finger on. Ah, but the Skeksis! Aside from their table manners and exceptionally harsh social order, they were interesting...and they have one of the coolest species names in Science Fiction/Fantasy. And yeah! I can see a bit of Skeksi in this reverse-jointed person. I also see a vague resemblance to the ancient Egyptian god, Thoth (though he was an ibis, and not a stork.) This is superb. I wish Chicago had a wider variety of large, impressive birds. This is making a trip into my favorites.
