High up in the mountains
Lies the country of Bhutan
A land of grace and beauty
Find it if you can
From Delhi, then to Kathmandu
Aboard a tiny plane
Fly so low to touch the earth
A voyage quite insane
Over the years my mother had hinted at the two of us taking a trip together. In 2000 she made me an offer I couldn't refuse. In July she would be taking a trip to the Kingdom of Bhutan with stops in Thailand, India and Nepal. There was also an optional extension to Cambodia available. Bhutan is a small country in the foothills of the Himalayas sandwiched between Tibet to the north, India to the south and east and Nepal on the west. We traveled from New Delhi on Druk (Dragon) Airlines, the Bhutanese national carrier, with a refueling stop in Kathmandu. At that time Bhutan had two seventy-two passenger, twin engine aircraft in its fleet.

Oh wow! It's breathtakingly beautiful especially from this POV. You and your mom really did the grand tour. It must have been overwhelming in it's scope. Hard to take it all in. Is there anywhere you have NOT been? Lol.

This is amazing...both the story and the image. I find it refreshing to know that a mother would be willing to share such an experience with her son. For me, that's what familial relationships should be like, especially since it's an opportunity for so much sharing and mutual discovery. As for this shot itself, it's simply stunning. I love the sense of scale and the colors that simply pop and dance all around this photo. Marvelous!
