Description
...everywhere we went in Eastern Oregon we were never far from something named after John Day. Here's a view of one little segment of the river named after him.
...The John Day River is a tributary of the Columbia River, approximately 281 miles (452 km) long, in northeastern Oregon in the United States. Undammed along its entire length, the river is the third longest free-flowing river in the conterminous United States.
...The river was named for John Day, a member of the Astor Expedition, an overland expedition to the mouth of the Columbia River that left from St. Louis, Missouri, in 1810. Day wandered lost through this part of Oregon in the winter of 1811-12...

Very cool shot, Bill
Gorgemous! What an idyllic trip!
lovely peaceful scene
This is lovely, gentle looking country. Although 'lost' would be a bad option.
Wonderful countryside here Bill just right for the coyote!
Looks like a beautiful spot Bill.
WHat a beautiful and interesting place, Bill. Lovely photo.
I'd kinda like to get lost there for a while myself! Such lovely scenery! Great shot, Bill!
Very beautiful landscape!! Outstanding composition Bill!!
beautiful panorama
A lovely view of the countryside there; I get the same feeling I get in Wyoming, of being closer to the sky. I'd hate to be lost for a whole winter there, though...
Fascinating!
Super capture of this river and surrounding area Bill, well done!
so he got lost and named every thing after himself lol. cool image

Well, gosh. I was standing right there, and didn't know all those things! :) Great shot of this pretty river. Nicely done!
Nice to do a river walk here. Beautiful capture. Aloha
Very nice capture. I like the wide view very much. Would like to walk there.
What a beautiful place!!
You just taught me a new word - conterminous. Thanks for the education. And the info about the Oregon river. It looks like a nice, calm little river, but, when the snow melts! The gravel shores attest to considerable force. The colors in this photo are nice. Seems Tara needs a bit filling in on the history of some of the places you visit while on the site. :) Keep up the good work! :-)
Great view!
Beautiful place & view, awesome capture!
Hell! it took me fifty years to get used to 'Continental' United States and now you come up with 'conterminous', NEVER heard that before....a trip to Google me thinks... What a great landscape, certainly a place to find peace and quiet, but 'lost' in Winter....did he survive? (conterminous, John Day....Google).There are bits of Scotland that look similar but thats like saying there are bits of New York that look like Liverpool....
Breathtaking Bill!!!
Gorgeous view. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your photos each day.
lovely scenery at a great angle!
Great image Like the view Hugs Susan~
