Description
Looking at my gallery, you would be forgiven for thinking we're still on the road! We actually got home a month ago today. That trip produced such a wealth of photographs that I'll be mining it all winter! Of course that's what I do every winter ... take one or two shots here and there, and go through my files from prior months.
Thought I'd give you a little break from our trip and post something I shot more recently!
We took a leisurely drive around Whidbey Island earlier this month, stopping for lunch and enjoying the day. These stones were sitting on a picnic table at Keystone Harbor, just waiting for me to come along and take their picture.
This is the first shot in my gallery taken with the new camera I got after we returned from our trip. It's just like my old camera, only different! :P They say it's better in low light, and it has a longer zoom. Of course there are things I like better and things I don't like as well and things I'm just not used to yet, but all in all I think it will do me just fine.
Bill took the new camera out for a test drive one day, and he has a picture in his gallery of a gull that he put up early Thursday morning.
I don't know that you'll notice a big difference in picture quality ... most of what I do is postwork ... but the old camera was a huge challenge to use in low light, and I'm hoping for a wider range of possibilities with this new one.
For those of you who care: the old camera was a Canon SX20is, and the new one is a Canon SX40hs.

Very cool capture with your spiffy new camera! Canon rocks!
Some great lil stones there And great find to take a pic of as well Hugs Susan~
Ah yes, the thrill of a new toy, good times! Like the contrasts in textures and shapes of this quartet!
SX 20 to SX 40? Well then, you've doubled up! This is a lovely family grouping. Wonderful colors and textures. So you've stocked up for the winter. Very wise. I here people are building Arks up in your part of the country.
Nice little collection Tara and good luck with this camera.
super image
Fantastic picture!
Enjoy your new camera! Nice shot!
Superb! When I first went to Art School we had a scary drawing tutor who used to make us draw without lifting the pencil from the paper, and this was JUST the sort of subject he would use. He had unkempt red hair, no interpersonal skills, and wore rubber boots.
awesome ! fav
makes a wonderful capture ...like Zen !!
Beautiful photo and composition Tara. Bravo for the exceptional colors!
Very Zen of you Tara. Oh! I though I was original and I see Feliciti said it before me..haha! Lovely image.
Most wonderful find. :))))) Wishing you many, many days of fun with your new camera. :)))))) Excellent capture. :)))))) Thank you for sharing. :))))) Carry A Smile In Your Heart :))))))
Very beautiful image I saw Bill's capture - the camera is impressive
I love finding set up shots like this; gotta wonder if someone else has this shot in their files too! Nicely seen and taken... Hope the new cam does what you want it to!
Excellent shot! Congratulations on your new camera! :)
Beautiful stones, Tara. I have in my upload folder a little collection of 3 stones and a beach. DIdnt post it yet :)
Nice work. Amazing how a simple composition can be so eye-catching.
First of all, congrats on the new camera! From the look of this photo, I'd say it ROCKS. (Sorry, I just HAD to say that...)! Nice, and sharp and clear, Tara! I did see Bill's shot of the gull.... amazing. Now, I have to ask the obvious question...... So did you try to stack those rocks like NefariousDrO? :-D
Minimalist composition...well seen...beautifully executed.
I really like this - the exposure with a bit of vignette around the edges. Is that the lens or postwork? Peaceful. Clive
Splendid composition and colors !Very beautiful !
A Zen POV, obviously !
I just love those objects you choose to try out with your new camera (congratulations :)). The POV is perfect, as the mood and light is too, Tara.
What an amazing find! What an amazing photograph! This makes me think of a landscape as--to me--it looks just like a nice (recently discovered) place that's closer than you'd think. The background recalls an expansive sky: the kind of sky the surrealists loved so much--there is so much sky in surrealist paintings! The colors are amazing and the POV is superb...rather like you've come across a cluster of wandering rocks huddled together--rather loosely--for warmth. Brilliantly seen and captured. I like this massively.
very lovely compo, tones and the mood!
Perfect. I'd happily frame this & stick it on my wall.
very wondeful
