Description
The UK's smallest bird of prey, this compact, beautiful falcon has a relatively long, square-cut tail and rather broad-based pointed wings, noticeably shorter than those of other falcons.
It has a fast and rapid flight action, with occasional glides, wings are held close to the body. Its small size enables it to hover and hang in the breeze in spectacular fashion as it pursues its prey. Which can often be quick insects like dragon flies!
In winter due to our mild winters the UK population increases with birds from colder climates like Iceland.
Although recovering from a population crash in the late 20th century it is still on the Amber List. This is one of 3 you can see at the ICBOP at Newent. Centre will close for two months after this week-end any UK Rosity members who would like to come let me know..

Oh, Danny! I think I have found a second bird of prey as a favorite. Still have to put the barn owl first but this has the same qualities - small, compact, efficient, and no-nonsense. Those wings are displayed with their details and placement with enormous detail, the face without flaw. Stellar shot, Danny!
Once again, great capture.
Great wings pose and focus
