Needs a full size peak I'm afraid.
Continuing my offbeat perspective, grayscale, exploration of London, England series.
This one is for Chipka (Chip from Chicago) who shares my love of gritty urban landscapes for photo opportunities. Take a look at his "In Transit" and you will see where I am coming from.
Glow was shot hand held at night somewhere in London's east end. I was riding with a small group and bringing up the rear, of course, because I was the only one stopping to take shots. I was quite far behind (again of course), when we crossed this street and I looked down along it and Whoa! Those lights in the slight gritty mist of a London September night, and the long shot down that street - I just had to stop, drop the bike, point, shoot, and get going again. I had no time to compose the shot; it was just a pure instinct grab and go.
Of course being a fast grab, hand held, night shot it was far from crystal clear but really it was the atmosphere I wanted to capture as much as the scene. So here I photoshopped in a bit of streaky noise to give a kind of a dreary, grunginess, which might well fit the seasonal London atmosphere of the scene anyways (and hopefully masked a bit of the imperfections of the shot.)
Very much appreciate your support of my photographic efforts. Thank's guys.

I love these quick grabs. I've been online irregularly, and only just discovered this photo, while attempting to catch up on viewing, before Christmas dinner. I was immediately intrigued. This is a marvel of a shot and it's dripping with mood. I love the monochrome treatment as well...I think this particular alleyway really lends itself to this sort of photography. The slight blur gives it that odd paradox I like: it's gritty and detailed, but there's something ethereal about it too...like it's the idea of an alley influencing the way this alley (or narrow road) attempts to present itself to human observers. And yeah, you nailed the mood here so wonderfully. This place looks either very old and full of whispers, or very modern, but nicely gritty as it's accumulating the whispers that'll ooze from the place in the future. That's what I like about cities...they accumulate stories that can sometimes be perceived as a kind of whispering. I love this whole image, especially the lights and the vaguely ominous shape of that sky! This is amazing and THANK YOU for this. It's truly stunning work.
You said it's London, but this photo could be anywhere. Its strength lies in the universality of the emotions it evokes! Very great!!
