Description
The Matthew is a fabulous and faithful reconstruction of the boat used by John Cabot when he discovered Newfoundland in 1497, becoming the first European known to have set foot on the American mainland.
The Matthew was built to cross the Atlantic on the 500th anniversary of Cabot’s famous journey. Today, she is moored alongside Brunel's SS Great Britain, as part of the visitor attraction, and is available for year-round public harbour cruises and private charters around Bristol's harbour, as well as summer sailing passages around the British Isles.
She also had a gorilla as a figure head!
They do get about....

Lovely shot Clive, she is looking a bit tatty now. I saw her at Weymouth just after her return across the Atlantic.
WONDERFUL with that gorilla!
excellent my friend
Very good color photo!
Well.....a fine looking vessel indeed! Looks like she's seen the seas quite a bit, but beautiful.. Although,. I'm almost certain the Gorilla was NOT the figurehead! Its awful... The man who thought this idea up wants shooting...... But great shot Clive, LOVE boats and ships! Rob
A beautiful ship! Wonder what the gorilla is all about? Great capture!
Stunning capture Clive. God Bless.
I think the gorilla is great there! It's the most harmonious environment I've seen yet. Standing on a street corner they look somehow out of place. This one, with its matching colors and mood, is superb on the bow of this ship. Terrific image!
Great image Hugs Susan~
