Description
After our visit to the sugar plantation we continued our climb into the hills to our final destination for the day, Lake Maninjau. Known to the traveling comedians as Lake Meningitis, it is yet another lake formed by the destruction of an ancient volcano, leaving behind a crater that eventually filled with water. The name Maninjau means overlook in the local Minangkabau language and that's what we did. We exited the van to get a view of the lake from the top of a hill. Pictures taken and back in the van for the drive down to the lake for a swim? Oh, no, no, no! We would take a pleasant hike down the hill to the lake. Problem was there was no trail, just a gully through the underbrush carved by runoff from rainwater. I was at least fifteen years older than my companions but I took the lead and started out. Hot and humid, watch your step! To add to the enjoyment the local kids were in the trees off to our right running up and down the hill while hooting and laughing at us. About halfway down the hill I began to slow down and soon was left behind with only our guide to nurse me down the rest of the way. After a cooling dip in the lake to soak my blistered feet it was time to go. Fortunately the van was there to meet us or I should probably still be there. Back in town our reward for surviving the day's adventures was several bottles of chilled Bintang beer and a huge feast of grilled chicken sate and nasi goreng (fried rice). I can tell you that was one night I slept really well.

yeah hill down is more difficult as up. your feast sounds delicicous, miss the indonesian cuisine already. From the Bintangs you maybe had a little too much (look at the water level of the lake ;-)))))
Superb capture!!!!!!!!!!!
What an adventure! I'd like the swim without the climb.

What a wonderful memory and adventure, maybe not at the time but to look back on, and the dinner sounds good too. Beautiful photos.
When I was in Japan, my friend and I climbed Mt Fuji (Well, half of it. A bus took everyone half way up.) We were both in our 20s and strode up the path, passing an old lady who was stooped over and using a cane. As you probably guessed, some time later, as we sat on the grass gulping air, she passed us by. She beat us up the mountain. Beautiful captures! I didn't realize until I zoomed the distance down from the plant to the lake in the first one. No wonder you had blisters! I like the light on the plant and the beautiful view. The second image looks more like a sea than a lake. Beautiful light in the sky and on the water. Excellent capture of the man in the boat. The meal sounds delicious, though I'd pass on the beer.
