Description
Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery has been a burial ground since before 1847. This graveyard became an Army Post cemetery in the 1860s. It is the final resting place for most who fell at San Pasqual in 1846, and for the USS Bennington victims of 1905.
It also is the final resting place for soldiers who gave their lives during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War , both WWI and WWII , the Korean, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars.
It includes many Medal of Honor recipients from all wars and currently is the final resting place for over 100,000 soldiers and, in many cases, their spouses.
It became Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in 1934, and is administered by the Veterans Administration.
The site is located at the Southern tip of Point Loma, San Diego, and on clear days overlooks both San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
On this morning fog obscured the view of the bay and the ocean and it was eerily silent, appropriate for a visit to this site.

Oh, I know this type of setting...offshore fog later in the day, but a shroud of quietness early in the morning. Wonderful mood and atmosphere here befitting those interred here. Always like your notes...I've never been here myself.
