Description
Queen Victoria (1819-1901)
The grand-daughter of King George III, Victoria I succeeded William IV to become Queen of Great Britain and Ireland,
from 1837 to 1901, and Empress of India, from 1876 to 1901. Her reign of nearly 64 years (Victorian period),
was marked by the development of the British Empire and the Industrial Revolution, which brought major economic,
social and technological changes.
The Victoria Memorial is a sculpture placed at the centre of the Victoria Square, Montreal.
The fine statue of the Queen Victoria adorning the Victoria Square is the work of sculptor Marshall Wood (1820-1882),
and was unveiled in 1872 by Lord Dufferin, the Governor General of Canada. At the time, the area surrounding Victoria Square was a prestigious neighbourhood.
It was a donation from a citizens committee, by public subscription, on the occasion of Prince Arthur’s visit to Montreal. The bronze was cast by Holbrook & Company, Chelsea, England in 1869.
Thanks
Magik

Reine Victoria (1819-1901)
Merci
