Description
I took this yesterday in the reptile house at The Royal Melbourne Zoo. The Coastal Taipan is one of the deadliest species of snakes in the world. It has large fangs and highly toxic venom. The poison from the bite causes headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and dizziness. Blurred vision follows, sometimes accompanied by convulsions and, in severe cases, coma. The poison is also a myotoxin - it eats away at muscle tissue. Kidney failure is a common complication in serious snake-bites and can cause death.

Sweet photo of snakey! Great detail, mate! I'm recovering from a Hobo Spider bite by my knee. We have them here in Oregon. I got lucky and it did not necrotise; but 8 weeks on, it still varies between itching, soreness and plain old hurt. Better that bug than this snake, yeah?

That's one long snake, and it's one I'll be sure to avoid. Mycotoxins are the worse, not that neurotoxins are anything to sneeze at either. Funny how the most gorgeous creatures around also happen to be the most deadly! Nature is a wonder that way, and I'm really impressed by this young, reptilian person's wonderful sense of fashion and length! Super color and this one looks quite alert and friendly, in that sort of venomous no-approach way.
