Description
A type of venomous pit viper found in South and Central America. The keeper told us they are not naturally aggressive, but would not hesitate in striking hard if threatened. I took this today in the reptile house at The Royal Melbourne Zoo.
Being an Eyelash Viper, I complimented this snake on her reptilian mascara.......err but she poked out her menacing forked tongue and gave me a look that said 'say that stupid joke once more and I'll kill you'! I never mentioned it again. ;)

I was wondering at it's bright color myself as snakes are generally colored similar to their environment. Sometimes molting will change their color for a bit too though. Fantastic shot through the glass~ =)
