Description
One of the best things about wildlife photography is you are always learning, and I consider myself fortunate when I observe new or interesting behavior, here this Juvenile Lesser Black backed Gull was diving into the water, and fishing out what looked like huge clams (probably Zebra Mussels) but many were larger than the 2" maximum supposedly for this type of freshwater shellfish.
I then watched as it then proceeded to show me how it intended to break into the large mussel by dropping onto rocks below.. I have a few other shots I will show later some images of the dive and Mussels in beaks etc.. If anybody has any other ideas what these shellfish are if I am incorrect please let me know..

This is so wonderful. It is very trim and lithe. I am so used to these types of birds being heavier and more muscular. Being a juvenile explains that and I guess I have not seen one at this age before, or maybe I didn't notice the differences at the time. Outstanding shot and information, although, I can't help with the mussels he found since I am not familiar with the types you have in your area.

Incredible capture, dear Danny. I hear people complain all the time about the gulls. If you live by the sea they are and import part of the wildlife. I love them. Hugs for all day. DiDi. xx
Excellent and interesting capture Danny, I agree about the behavior of wildlife, when you can catch them not worrying about how or what is around and going about there normal routine it can be quite interesting and enjoyable. One of my personal pleasures. Thanks for sharing, have a great day.

Wow perfect timing to capture this amazing feet. I know the crows around here are smart enough to drop their found nuts on the road side perfectly for the oncomming traffic to crack it wide open under a wheel. Beautiful seaside capture here- thanks for sharing! :) And have you checked out the Photography Story Challenge? Go continue the story!
