Description

Something completely different for me. I've always had an interest in the Vietnam War and loved the distinctive shape of the M16. The M16 was developed by Armalite in the late 50's early 60's for the American military who wanted a lightweight full automatic weapon as an alternative to the heavier wood/metal carbines that were used in the Korean War. The M16A1 was first tested in 1962 at the beginning of the Vietnam War and quickly became the standard asault rifle for US soldiers. Colt bought the design from Armalite and carried on development which included a shorter more compact version called the Colt Commando. The Colt Commando has been used by special forces and law enforcement agencies for urban fighting due to its suitablity for use in buildings and situations where space is limited. The M16 has been revised several times (Revision A1 to the current A4) and the later Colt Commandos were designated as M4's. Both have seen modifications to the barrel so that all sorts of attachments can be added (sniper sights, laser pods, grenade launchers, etc) and they are now called Modular Weapon Systems (MWS). Well . . . It's time for change and the American Military are starting to phase out the M16 in favour of the M4 MWS. You'll still see the distinctive carry handle but these days it can be removed to attach other equipment. Background compositing by me and then scene rendered in Poser. Thanks for looking and your comments Tim

Like you I've always been fascinated with that period of History, to the point of going to Vietnam in 2009, I was able to fire the M16 and an AK while I was over there at the Cu Chi tunnel complex..
