Description
View is from the observation platform of the TV tower near Alexanderplatz and shows the St. Nikolas Kirche and the Rote Rathaus.
The St. Nikolas Kirche is the oldest church in Berlin and was constructed between 1220 and 1230. Originally a Catholic church, the church of St. Nicolas became a Lutheran church after the Protestant Reformation in the Electorate of Brandenburg in 1539.
The Rote Rathaus is the town hall in Berlin. It is the home of the Mayor and the Senate of Berlin. It was built between 1861 and 1869 in the style of the North Italian High Renaissance by Hermann Friedrich Waesemann. It was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in World War II and rebuilt to the original plans between 1951 and 1956.
The Fernsehturm (TV tower) was constructed between 1965 and 1969 and with a height of 368m (1207-ft) is the tallest structure in Germany and the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe. The observation platform is at 204m (669-ft) above the ground and the revolving restaurant, above the visitors platform, rotates once every 30 minutes (Wikipedia).

The restaurant revolves at a rate of 12 degrees a minute? That's quite a ride:) I love the way the German people rebuilt after the war. I first realized how well they did this walking through Nuermberg and Munich in the late 1970s. From what I've read, jobs were still somewhat scarce in the late 40s and early 50s and workers were many. It is wonderful that they could pull out original plans and rebuild. Outstanding POV.
This is a fascinating view! I'm particularly interested in the way the cars are parked on that elevated roadway on the left-hand side. SO different from anything I've ever seen before! I keep going back and staring again and again, thinking I'll find something to say that conveys how absorbing the picture is, but I guess just saying that will have to do, because my brain goes into detail mode when I look again. Nothing to say, just one more look!
Stunning capture my friend. God Bless.
