Description

Delicate Arch. Water and Time have sculptured this arch. The spans distinctive shape has inspired such colorful names as 'Cowboy Chaps' and 'Old Maids Bloomers'! This free standing arch is composed mostly of Entrada Sandstone. The top is a five foot thick layer of Moab Tongue of the Curtis Formation. A remnant of an ancient fin, the arch today has an opening that is 45 feet high and 35 feet wide. Erosion continues to wear away the features of this mature span. It is only a matter of time before the geological and environmental forces that created the arch will destroy it. Information from a nearby plaque! Dana (Orest4wicked) asked yesterday for this one.

I see the chaps, don't know enough about ladies bloomers! It seems oddly alone out there.

You don't realise the scale until you notice the humans in the foreground!

The area has a somewhat alien look to it. Fascinating what natural forces can create.
