Description
This is a shot from the lower gardens area which includes sculptured trees and sculptured bushes. There are a number of water features in the lower garden areas too. From left to right you have the Hagiwara Gate, the Five story Pagoda and a traditional Japanese arch. The spire at the top of a Pagoda is called a sorin and its nine rings represent various heavens of the Buddhist gods. There is a stone lantern and a small waterfall just to the right of the Pagoda. Stone Lanterns were introduced to Japan in the Sixth Century and lamp oil, was burned in the upper chamber, to light a pathway at night. Zoom to check out the sorin. Scanned photo from early 1980s.
Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated.
