Description
Coming to the end of my old photos for now.
This is a scene on the Thames near the junction with the Kennet. The site of the old gasworks. The gas from the coking plant used to be piped over the Kennet to the gasometers on the opposite bank. These days, with natural gas, the coking plant is long gone. It used to occupy the site behind the black railings on the right of the picture. The gasometers, however, are still in use.
The coking plant site is now occupied by a mega-supermarket and some blocks of flats, though the river frontage doesn't look much different now.
