Description

Svartifoss (Black Fall in icelandic) is a waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is surrounded by dark lava columns, which give rise to its name. The hexagonal columns were formed inside a lava flow which cooled extremely slowly, giving rise to crystallization. Similar well-known lava formations are seen at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, and on the island of Staffa in Scotland.

This photo was taken on my fourth visit to Iceland, on a dark and rainy day, but the magic of the place was still there ! Please zoom !

On comprend pourquoi c'est si populaire, c'est tout simplement superbe ! Je pense aussi que ta photo rend un bel hommage à cet endroit...ces voiles d'eau tombant sur la lave noire, c'est parfait. Je connais Giant's Causeway mais l'Islande n'a jamais figuré sur mon carnet de voyage et pourtant j'aimerais bien.

C'est magique Karma ! J'adore l'effet de l'eau qui coule. Cette lave est impressionnante dans sa forme et sa couleur ! Et puis, ce n'est pas tous les jours que l'on a deux images de toi aussi rapprochées dans le temps (rires !) Du très beau travail JL !

Great looking photo Jean-Luc, and easy to see why it is so popular as it has such a dramatic appearance. Always been a huge fan of waterfalls and maybe that is why the appearance of this drew me in so fast.
