Description
Main Street, Groveland, California is described as being the "gateway to Yosemite". It is indeed, only a 40 minute drive into the park. Across the street is the Iron Door Saloon, said to be "the oldest continuously operated drinking establishment in California", according to a plaque on the side of the building. It was opened in 1852 and has the original stone walls; the door is also original. I ate-- and drank-- there, but got no fotos!! lol
The thrift shop down the street--wow!! I bought some capris, a blouse and a pair of short for all of $5.36--my kind of shopping!!

Wonderful capture, Marilyn Sounds like you had a great time there
What a shot! I love your postwork too. I love all of the aspects of Americana that exist in this shot; the first thing I noticed is that there's Bingo on Thursday nights. Thursday must be the only night the Bingo is allowed, because no matter what and no matter where, it's on Thursday night. It kinda makes sense though...Thursday is just close enough to the weekend to be fun, but it's not yet the weekend! Post hump-day or something. And I love the thrift shop as well...I could easily spend too much time in one of those. In fact, I did just today and I bought something that looks expensive...for $1. Just a black, sleek, sleeveless wholly-artificial fabric kind of futuristic tank top with a not-so-obnoxious logo on it. This is a fun shot. I could just wander into it! 1852 huh? I'd drink in a spot like that, and put my ear to the walls and listen to see if they have any interesting stories to tell, and if they're from 1852, then you know they have at least ONE story concerning floozies. Those are always fun.
Neat angles and lines...and the oldest continuously operating drinking joint in California! Wonder what they did during prohibition? lol.
Great composition! I can't quite read the sign ... at first I thought they had Authentic Mexicans, but that isn't right. Mexico's? Very odd. Hope you remember, 'cause it's driving me a little bonkers trying to figure it out! LOL!
Great capture, very nice "Main Street" ;-)
SO envious of the thrift store shopping! I love this shot, so inviting and a superb composition.
Great postwork, love the angel down the wall isntead of straight on- thanks for sharing! :-)

Nice shot and info. I can understand the concentration on the thrift store in this image. I'm with Tara, 'Authentic Mexican' what?
great view and shot !! good shopping too :) like your PW !!
nice one
An excellent slice of life; small town thrift shops are the best!!
Very nice work! I've spent a lot of time in towns like this in the Sierra Nevada foothills. They're all so quaint and frozen in time ( mostly - there are a sprinkling of Jamba Juice franchises, Walmarts and Verizon stores. This is a great shot.
wonderful work
Main Street USA and it really looks and sounds like it. My wife would drive out there just for the thrift shop. :>) Dana
