Description
The Red Kite (Milvus milvus) is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles, buzzards, and harriers.
In Belgium, the population declined to 1-3 pairs in the 1970s, then a recovery was observed: today the estimation is around 50-60 couples of this rare species.
Picture taken yesterday (July 1st) in front of our home in Rulles (South Belgium), above a just mowed meadow... not a perfect picture but nevertherless, I’m proud of it: my best capture of this extraordinary bird so far...
This bird is the main reason for my opposition to the construction of windmills in South Belgium... (wind turbine kills kite

Oh wow incredible!!
a real majestic picture!
This is a very unusual profile of a red kite. Great shot. same problem in UK. In the '60s we lived in mid WaLES, ONE OF THE last bastions of the kite and a sighting was special. now in mid Wales , near Aberystwyth there is a feeding area where they fly in in huge numbers. The protection programme has been a huge success. they are a fantasic sight in the air.
